Screamin' Jay Hawkins

MAD EARLY ROCKABILLY? (with some soul)
this guy rules, look at his outfit and the set.
He could even be called a punk at this time, because he was so fucking crazy and wild. Can you imagine seeing this in 1956, it would probably be like nothing you had ever seen before.
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU

He was supposedly father to over 100 kids or something outrageous like that. There is some organization thats like "Children of Screaming Jay" for them to find each other. Apparently he also played a gig at CBGB back in the 70s, imagine that...

He was actually a pretty straight laced guy at first, he was a really good boxer supposedly and studied classical and opera music...This song was not very popular until he recorded it while drunk, which is why the track has those shrieks and gasps. After that he developed his stage act in that same way where he'd arrive on stage in a coffin. Wish he was still alive and playing!
P.S. He was on the cover of Rockabilly monthly a few years ago, it might be available for backorder or something.
