PARANOIA - SHATTERED GLASS LP

Thanks Mirna for THE EXPELLED post, it inspired me to do this post for some lesser known female acts from the UK 80's. First up is PARANOIA with their "Shattered Glass" LP. This is slow dirgy dark and bordering on goth punk. But still with some great punk songs as well: "Graveyards of Hell" and "1984". The vocalist Janet's singing voice is sooo beautiful. This LP was released after their debut EP "Dead Man's Dreams" on Dunk from RIOT SQUAD's "Rot Records". This group also hailed form Stoke-on-Trent the town that gave us DISCHARGE and THE SKEPTIX.

POTENTIAL THREAT - WHAT'S SO GREAT BRITAIN? 7"

My favorite female fronted UK '82 band. This single is straight up punk. Fast and loud. Later on they got even faster with their second EP "Brainwashed" and their LP's were more along the lines of CONFLICT anarcho style punk. Everything by this band is fucking great, but this is in my opinion their best. Sounds fuckin' DISCHARGE-y especially "Animal Abuse". Don't have this on my computer, so can't upload it, but found a .rar link download(sorry Ali). Listened to it and damn it sounds so much better on vinyl! Oh well. Each song on this beats any VICE SQUAD!

FUCK! This band rules! One of the best bands ever to fuse punk and metal and do it right. And the added bonus of having a female singer just makes it way more badass. They also had a 12" released in '85 "Behind the Realms of Madness" which is also fucking great, but more thrash and metal. These demos, especially the first are great heavy punk. SACRILEGE includes Damian Thompson, Andy Baker and Tony May all of THE VARUKERS among others. So this is pretty much where the "Another Religion, Another War" 12" (best VARUKERS release) leaves off and it shows. The last three demos show the more metal leanings with the second being right before "Behind the Realms..." and the third and fourth being directly after. Enjoy!
