NERVUS REX

A great, somewhat under-appreciated new wave band.
Put out a single in '78 called "Don't Look".

Two years later, they put out their only full album (self-titled)

My favorite songs are "The God Sheila", "Don't Look", "Go-Go Girl"... they're definitely worth checking out.

ROCK ROCK ROCKAWAY BEACH

The summer is almost here, which means I am surfing every other weekend in the bleak shit hole neighborhood of Rockaway Beach, my birthplace. If anyone is interested in hanging ten and drinking beer on the jettys, let me know. Surf's up motherfuckers

Kenneth Anger Exhibition

This isn't music per say, but there is an exhibition up of a bunch Kenneth Anger's work at PS1 in Queens. Kenneth Anger made a bunch of awesome short films in thr 40s, 50s and 60s, most famously Scorpio Rising. His shit it super punk, I reccommend checking the show out, it's up til September.

Presenting...Lothar And The Hand People

Inspired by the Arthur Brown post, here's some more weirdo music. Lothar and The Hand People were a mid 60's psychedelic/country/rock band that used a Moog synthesizer and a theremin (named Lothar). According to wikipedia, they were "the first rockers to tour and record using synthesizers..." I guess that's pretty cool. I couldn't find any videos of them on youtube, but here's a crappy homemade video for a sweet song:

And here's their first album, for your enjoyment:

My bad, Violent Nun

My bad, I guess if I were to post the Stupids, I gotta talk about the Violent Nun EP, their 1st record.
It is yummy.
There is something so sexy about this EP, I cant explain. Maybe it's because Wolfie was so hot.. but it's not just him. The whole record is such a turn on; boys in puberty that get laid are much better at releasing testosterone.
It's somewhat similar to Channel 3's Fear of Life (originally put out in Cali but soon after in Europe as I've got a Gun) that was put out about 2 years before. Similar in style.. but CH3 doesn't have the aspect young sexuality probably because they were a little older than the Stupids and released their testosterone through fighting.

The Stupids and D.I.

Last year, this LP, Peruvian Vacation, by the UK thrash band, the Stupids, was repressed in yellow cover and yellow vinyl. The original, put out in the 80s by COR, is fairly hard to find specially in good condition since this wasn't very popular at the time. It's strange and unusual but in my opinion really awesome. This album is as close to my heart as Suicidal's self-titled is; in fact they are right next to each other on my stack.
Next, the album with the worst cover ever, but with the catchiest song ever ("Johnny's Got a Problem"), D.I.'s Horse Bites Dog Cries. It was put out in the same year as Peruvian Vacation, 1985, but across the north atlantic ocean. D.I. has ex-members of the Adolescents but has a unique sound.
It's interesting to compare the LA scene w/ UK's non-metropolitan district of Ipswich (translation: shit-hole) scene in the mid 80s.

What black metal was ripping off

This guy is the craziest mother fucker ever. 1968. Features the keyboard player from Atomic Rooster. darkthrone cited this guy as an influence, soooooooo weird.

Dead Man's Bones

Live performance in a graveyard, beautiful.
More present bands need to have this aesthetic, the old timey ness/black and white in filming is all the more genuine and pleasing, to me at least. gothiness in the sunshine, and creepy children, what more could you ask for?

john doe is still the sexiest man ever

X is playing May 29, 30, & 31st at 8:00 at Bowery Ballroom. Not sure about the cost, but I think it's $29.

90s hardcore book

This guy wrote a book on influential hardcore bands from the 90s and had a show for it's book release. The book (from thumbing through it) is awesome he's a blurb from the site:
"Although some define hardcore as a specific sound, most believe it's more than that; a set of varying ideas, ethics, principles, attitudes and, yes, music, that converge to form a community. "Burning Fight: The Nineties Hardcore Revolution In Ethics, Politics, Spirit, And Sound" by Brian Peterson provides some answers, but also brings up a whole new set of questions for those who've been drawn to the scene's political, social, ethical and spiritual ideas amidst the screamed vocals and abrasive chords. "Burning Fight" features commentary from approximately 150 participants from the nineties hardcore scene as well as oral history articles about straight edge, politics, vegetarianism and interviews with a variety of influential bands such as: Avail, Burn, Earth Crisis, Inside Out, Integrity, Los Crudos, Spitboy, Strife, Texas Is The Reason, Unbroken and more. 503 pages."

Fuck LiveNation

The Damned are playing May 14th at Irving Plaza, tickets are $29 (already totally ridiculous) and the LiveNation advance ticket fee is $12. I LOVE The Damned but there's no way I'm paying $41 to see a fat old Dave Vanian...

South Park SoundTrack

ok, silly, but the greatest yet... i've seen it so many times and still laugh my ass off every time.

Kanye is a Gay Fish:

Pirate song! "we'll cut off your cock and feed it to a crock"
i think this actually a great parody because Cartman gets beeped every time he says "fuck" throughout the show and then at the end they have this........

Edith Nylon-Edith Nylon

Edith Nylon was a French Punk/New Wave band from the late 70s/early 80s. I don't know too much about them except the singer is a director in China now. The Clip below is from the 1980 film "La Brune et moi," documenting the French new wave scene.
